In 2024, through a $5 million investment of American Rescue Plan Act funds and a partnership with Michigan Saves, the nation’s first nonprofit green bank, the Oakland SAVES Grant Program, in Oakland County, Michigan, upgraded nearly 1,100 households. These improvements reduced energy consumption and utility bills, enhanced health, safety, and comfort, and strengthened community resilience. Beyond the direct benefits to residents, Oakland SAVES generated more than $7.7 million in local contracting work, supporting jobs and the regional economy. By aligning environmental sustainability with economic opportunity, Oakland SAVES demonstrates how public investment can deliver lasting community impact.
