The Consumers Energy Smart Energy Challenge (SEC) is an engagement program which uses multiple approaches including community-based outreach and a rewards website.
The SEC website is an engagement platform, which provides customers an opportunity to learn about energy efficiency and have fun doing it. Activities include energy-related trivia, games, missions, educational videos, and more. Customers earn points for completing activities and can redeem points for rewards like gift cards and energy efficiency products. Some activities are weighted heavier than others based on the activities’ difficulty and/or importance to the customer journey. Choosing a DIY kit, having a home energy analysis performed and visiting the AMI data analytics portal were featured activities and weighted heaviest. Customers also donated points to local nonprofit organizations that participated in the SEC.
